The Final FRCA

The Final FRCA is the final hurdle on the path to Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and represents a significant step up from the Primary examination. Rather than testing scientific knowledge in isolation, it assesses your ability to apply that knowledge to clinical anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, intensive care, pain medicine, and professional practice.

This section is designed to help guide your preparation for both the Written Examination and Structured Oral Examination (SOE). Alongside overviews of the examination format and curriculum, you’ll find reviews of commonly used revision resources, question banks, and practical advice from candidates who have recently sat the exam. The aim is to help you focus your revision, avoid common pitfalls, and approach the examination with a clear understanding of both the breadth of the syllabus and the standard expected on exam day.
